About Melinda Carmen

Profile Melinda

I was born and raised in Houston, TX. I studied all forms of dance at Margo Marshals Dance School, where I was introduced  to many great teachers, who would become mentors. I taught ALL forms of dance for almost 15 years. I went on to train extensively at Fordham University with Alvin Ailey School of Dance program, where I was first introduced to Pilates as part of our curriculum, in 1995.  I cold deftly see the changes in my body.

Later on down the road after multiple car accident, I had to deal with pain for the first time in my life.  Instead of turning to shots in my back, or narcotics, I turned to Pilates. I did it for at least 1 hour every day. I was pain free for 20 years.  I then decided to share this gift with others and got my certifications. During my certification process, I  was involved in mentorship programs with the best trainers in town.  I feel so lucky to have that experience, as most teachers never get that opportunity.

As a strong teacher, working for myself, I take from all of my training in Pilates, Dance, and Medical Exercise to create movement and programs for each client’s individual needs and fitness goals.  No two programs are alike.  Some people have many limitations, others have none.  My strict dance background allows me to focus on complete functional movement with proper form.  Building a solid foundation of movement requires rigorous training and patience. There is an order to functional movement. There is a beginning, a middle, and an end to all exercises. The most important part of the exercise is the set up. If the set up is wrong, the execution will lead to injury or lack of results.
With Body Manipulation Pilates, you are guaranteed results, but you have to invest in yourself. Time, practice, and perseverance are key to a positive outcome.

WHY BODY MANIPULATION PILATES

Some of my clients come to me for cervical spine issues, low back pain, knee issues, etc. I use dynamic stretching and pre Pilates for these cases. Stretching is a big part of my program, but it must be done right.  I am a hands on teacher unless you say otherwise. I believe that putting people into position is better than going into the wrong position consistently as you build your strength.  Good muscle memory is very important. Read through some of my programs listed in the home page, call or email me with questions. I would be happy to answer them for you.
